New collaboration with Speckle Systems: Emerging Innovation in AEC Industry

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Speckle Systems (https://speckle.systems/), a database software enhancing interoperability and collaboration among interdisciplinary teams.  Speckle Systems is located in the UK and it is the outcome of a previous EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie project named as InnoChain (http://innochain.net/) by Dimitrie Stefanescu at Bartlett School of Architecture that time.

PrismArch ’s main aim for creating a virtual workspace for the AEC industry that will enhance the collaborative capabilities among architects and engineers requires a database structured on a relevant mindset. Speckle platform fulfills these conditions, enabling AEC companies to evolve digitally in a cloud based environment. Speckle streamlines collaboration and automation for 3D information – CAD & BIM, empowering AEC companies with open and accessible data. Speckle in a single phrase is “The Git of 3D models for the AEC and Creative Industries”. It supports connectivity through plugins for Blender, Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, Dynamo, and some more software as early alpha version such as Unreal and Excel.

PrismArch is interested for pushing forward the Unreal plugin as follows:

Speckle system is a good match for PrismArch asynchronous collaboration needs. In PrismArch, we exploit GraphQL API in various ways in order to speed up all necessary developments, namely to further progress on the Speckle Unreal plugin, make additional queries that will be available with the interfaces of PrismArch VR plugin for fetching Speckle commits inside Unreal and finally to modify the database programmatically in order to process with semantics the stored information and add it to the knowledge database for retrieving information.

Development of an interface for fetching Speckle commits inside Unreal

Interoperability, collaboration, data management, versioning and automation are necessary prerequisites for PrismArch’s platform, which will allow two-way communication and collaboration inside VR environments for all AEC disciplines. We are excited to extend our network and build up future collaboration in this context, reforming AEC industry and its potentials.
